About the Book

Long before the first power drill arrived in the Red River Gorge, there was rock climbing. Bold locals explored the region’s sculpted sandstone, finding soaring cracks, free-standing towers, and utterly wild multi-pitch adventure routes hidden in the deep woods. These fine climbs are still out there, offering a completely different experience than the over-chalked holds and hectic crowd scenes you find at the Red’s popular sport crags. This book is your guide to that other world, the first of its kind.

You’ll find Wolverine’s standard features — great action photography, helpful maps, grade distributions, approach tips, cell coverage, etc — carefully vetted and thoughtfully delivered. The detailed route descriptions will help on the often wandering routes as you follow natural weaknesses, often to airy summits. If you need the Big Bros or brassies, the book will let you know without spoiling any surprises. About the Author

Billy grew up in Massachusetts and started visiting Kentucky on weekends while a student at Purdue. In 2018, he moved to the Gorge, first working at the Red River Rockhouse, then as executive director of RRGCC. From his first lead at Bruise Brothers to now, he has climbed over 2000 different routes in the Gorge — a record second only to Blake Bowling on the coveted Red River Climbing leaderboard. Perhaps even more impressive is the amount of obscure lines Billy has climbed in the region. His experiences on these neglected gems gave birth to this book. He now works for the Access Fund as the National Affiliate Director.
