Free Preview of Red River Gorge iPhone App Now Available
After months of anticipation (at least on my part) the iPhone/iPod Touch app for the Red River Gorge guidebook is almost here.  One of the first of its kind, Red River Gorge Rock Climbs takes the updated 3rd edition of the popular Red River Gorge printed guidebook and leverages the iPhone platform to deliver what I think looks like a really useful tool more.

The days of recording new-route information in Fred Beckey’s little black book are long gone. This May, Wolverine Publishing is releasing the third edition of Red River Gorge Rock Climbs, both as a 400-page book and an app for the iPhone and iTouch. The app isn’t just an e-book or a digitized version, like a pdf, of the print product; rather, it is a fully interactive program that could change a lot about how we relate to our routes, crags … and maybe even each other more

Just back from the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City, where I ran into my old friend Dave Pegg. Dave is a long time climber and a former editor at Climbing Magazine. I met Dave way back in the days of the Phoenix Bouldering Contest when I lived in Arizona. These days Dave heads a book publishing company called Wolverine Publishing, most notably the publishers of some very successful climbing guidebooks. more

Despite all the joking around about the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show there were a few cool products unveiled at the show. Probably the most intriguing thing I’ve seen so far is the upcoming Red River Gorge iPhone App from Wolverine Publishing. more
 
 Winter Outdoor Retailer 2010 – The Coolest Stuff

The 2010 Winter Outdoor Retailer show has come and gone. We saw a lot of good friends, and got to check out many of the new products that are in store for the coming year. It can be a little overwhelming in there, with all the fluorescent lighting and shiny toys and all. We’ll share more about much of the gear we saw, but here’s the coolest stuff that really stood out and made an impression. more
